There is no reliable standard price for toilet installation or replacement. The quote depends on the chosen suite, compatibility with the existing water and waste connections, access, labour, materials, removal requirements, location, current market conditions and faults uncovered after the old pan is lifted. A licensed plumber needs to inspect the site and confirm the actual scope.
What does the job usually include?

Like-for-like means replacing the toilet in the same position without substantial changes to the water supply or waste pipe. It does not guarantee that every new toilet will fit. Moving a toilet is a separate, more involved scope because the graded sanitary drain and water supply may need rerouting.
What affects the quote?
Compatibility with the existing waste outlet and set-out is the main installation variable. An S-trap usually discharges through the floor, while a P-trap usually discharges through the wall. If the new pan’s outlet type or dimensions do not match the fixed connection, another suite or pipe alterations may be required.
Other common factors include:
- the toilet suite’s design and supply arrangements
- a wall-hung pan or concealed cistern
- water or waste pipe alterations
- safe removal and disposal of the old toilet
- difficult access
- replacement of a faulty isolation valve
- damage found after the old pan is removed.
Before buying a toilet, ask a plumber to confirm the outlet type and set-out if compatibility is uncertain.
What should the quote include?
An itemised quote should state:
- the exact toilet model, if supplied
- installation labour and standard materials
- GST and any call-out charge
- pan connectors, fixings and sealants
- whether isolation-valve work is included
- removal and disposal of the old toilet
- how additional work will be assessed and approved.
In NSW, you cannot install a complete toilet yourself because the water-supply and sanitary plumbing must be completed by a suitably licensed plumber. Do not disconnect sanitary pipework, as it may expose you to wastewater and contamination.
