Which filters reduce chlorine?
Activated carbon is the usual treatment medium. Both granular activated carbon and carbon block filters can reduce free chlorine, but performance depends on the specific product rather than the carbon format alone.
When choosing a filter, check for:

- a rated flow and treatment capacity suitable for the application
- independent certification, such as NSF/ANSI 42 for chlorine taste and odour reduction

Why does performance vary?

Does the same filter reduce chloramine?
Not necessarily. Chloramine is more persistent than free chlorine, so a standard chlorine-rated carbon filter may not reduce it effectively. Where chloramine reduction is required, choose catalytic carbon or another filter specifically tested and certified for that purpose.
A refrigerator filter may also target chlorine taste, but only within its verified capacity.
