## Summary

Pillar gas cooktop page for Sydney: hero into the segment selector, then about and the ETA strip, then the wizard (job selector), offers, and a before-we-arrive prep section with a prominent gas-smell safety panel. The live gas fitter map, before/after, both on-time guarantee variants, value props, how-it-works, warranty and the licensed-vs-unlicensed comparison build trust around licensed gas fitting. Service tiles, by-the-numbers, reviews, payment options and the cooktop brand marquee continue social proof, followed by the homeowner handbook, live job ticker, FAQs and a lead-capture card. All internal anchors resolve on-page: #wizard and #live-gas-cooktop-map.

## The gas-endorsed team behind 2,000+ appliance connections across Sydney

Sydney gas cooktop specialists

Connecting a gas cooktop is not general plumbing; it is licensed gas fitting governed by AS/NZS 5601. We run gas points, size the line, connect the appliance, leak test under pressure, and certify the work; because a wrong connection is a fire and carbon-monoxide risk, not a leaking tap.

From a single cooktop swap in a Newtown terrace to converting an entire electric kitchen to natural gas in a Mosman renovation, our gas-endorsed crew has run the point, connected the appliance, and certified the lot. Every job is carried out by a fully ticketed gas fitter, every connection is leak and pressure tested, and every install closes with a Gas Certificate of Compliance; not a promise to email one later.

## Getting ready for your gas cooktop connection

Before we arrive

Gas cooktop work is almost always planned, so a little prep makes the visit faster and cleaner. Work through these before we arrive; and read the gas-smell panel below, because that is the one thing you must never ignore.

Smell gas in the kitchen? Stop and read this first.

If you smell gas near your cooktop or anywhere in the home, do not switch anything on or off; not a light, not a rangehood, not an exhaust fan, and do not use your phone in the area. A single spark is enough to ignite gas. If a burner is on, only turn it off if you can do so instantly and safely. Open windows and doors to ventilate, get everyone out of the house, and from a safe location outside call **000** or your gas provider’s emergency line. Once you are safe, call us on 1800 349 338 for a licensed gas fitter to locate and repair the leak and re-certify the appliance.

Never attempt to connect or convert a gas cooktop yourself. Gas fitting is licensed work; a DIY connection can void your insurance, breach the Gas and Electricity (Consumer Safety) Act, and put your household at risk of fire or carbon-monoxide exposure.

### Clear the benchtop and under-bench cabinet

Empty the cabinet directly below the cooktop and clear the surrounding bench. We need clean access to run or connect the gas point, fit the appliance isolation valve, and route the consumer piping. If the old appliance is still in place, leave it; we disconnect and remove it safely.

### Confirm your gas type: natural gas or LPG

Natural gas (mains) and LPG (bottled) run at different pressures and need different injectors. Check whether you have a mains gas meter or gas bottles outside. Most modern cooktops ship with a conversion jet kit; we fit the correct injectors and set the regulator so the flame burns clean and safe for your fuel.

### Have the appliance and its paperwork ready

If you have already bought the cooktop, leave it boxed nearby with the installation manual and any injector or bayonet kit that came in the carton. We match the connection to the manufacturer’s spec. Buying still? Tell us the model and we’ll confirm it suits a gas point run and your bench cut-out before you commit.

### Know your gas smell response

A gas cooktop is safe when it is installed and certified correctly; but everyone in the home should know the smell of gas (like rotten eggs) and what to do. Read the safety panel below and share it with your household. If you ever smell gas, you act first and call us second.

## What changes when a licensed gas fitter connects your cooktop?

Before vs After

A gas connection is the one kitchen job you cannot see once the cooktop is bolted down; and the one that fails dangerously when it is done wrong. Here is exactly what shifts when a gas-endorsed Sydney fitter handles it instead of a handyman or the delivery driver.

## What other gas cooktop installers *won’t* tell you.

Side-by-side with what most homeowners actually receive when a retailer or handyman “connects” a cooktop; no spin, no fine print. Just what we include as standard, and what tends to quietly get skipped elsewhere on licensed gas work.

## What happens when you book a gas cooktop job in Sydney?

How It Works

Same upfront pricing whether it is a straight cooktop swap, a full electric-to-gas conversion, or a commercial kitchen fit-out. Here is exactly what to expect from the first call to the Gas Certificate.

Every gas cooktop job in Sydney is backed by our lifetime workmanship warranty plus a Gas Certificate of Compliance; in writing, on your invoice. We never connect an appliance without leak testing and certifying it.

Tell us your cooktop and your gas supply

Brand and model, natural gas or LPG, and whether there is already a gas point in the kitchen. We use this to load the right injectors, bayonet or fixed fittings, and isolation valve onto the truck before we leave.

Gas-endorsed fitter arrives and assesses on-site

A licensed gas fitter checks your meter or bottles, the existing point and pipe sizing, the bench cut-out and clearances, and confirms the appliance suits your fuel; then explains exactly what the connection needs, in plain English.

Fixed quote, in writing, before we start

You get itemised pricing covering the appliance connection, any new gas point or pipe run, the isolation valve, the leak test and the Certificate of Compliance. You decide. No upsell, no pressure, no surprise line items.

Connect, leak test, then certify

Most cooktop connections are completed on the first visit; a new gas point run adds an hour or two. We set the injectors for your fuel, leak and pressure test the line, check the flame, and email your Gas Certificate of Compliance before we leave.

Gas smell or fault; we triage in 60 seconds

Smell of gas near the cooktop, a burner that won’t light, or a hissing connection. We tell you how to make it safe immediately and dispatch the closest gas-endorsed fitter as a priority.

Make it safe while we’re en route

We talk you through turning off the appliance isolation valve or the meter, ventilating the kitchen, and keeping ignition sources off; so the risk is contained before we arrive.

Locate, isolate and repair the leak

We pressure test the line to find the leak, isolate the faulty section or fitting, and repair it with compliant materials. No guesswork, no temporary patch left on a live gas line.

Re-test and re-certify

Once repaired, the line is pressure tested again, the flame is checked, and a fresh Gas Certificate of Compliance is issued so the appliance is safe and legal to use.

Site review and access requirements

Cafe, restaurant, commercial kitchen or strata renovation? We coordinate with building management, lift bookings, and after-hours access ahead of the cooktop or cooktop-bank install.

Compliance and SWMS

Gas licence, plumbing licence, $10M public liability, SWMS and JSA documents prepared and supplied before we step on site; no chasing.

Scoped quote with load calculations

We calculate the total gas load, size the supply and consumer piping, and quote the point runs, isolation valves and appliance connections side by side; so the kitchen is fed correctly, not starved when everything fires at once.

Scheduled install and certification

After-hours, staged, or weekend installs available. We connect, commission and leak test each appliance, then provide the Gas Certificate of Compliance and records for your council and insurer.

## Certified, tested and warranted; all in writing

Our Guarantee

Every gas cooktop job is covered by our lifetime workmanship warranty on the connection and the full manufacturer warranty on the appliance. Every connection is leak and pressure tested, and every install closes with a Gas Certificate of Compliance. No fine print, no exclusions you have to dig out of a PDF.

Lifetime Workmanship

### Lifetime Workmanship Warranty

If our connection or gas-fitting workmanship fails at any point while you own the property, we come back and fix it at no charge. No time limit, no excess, no questions asked.

### Gas Certificate of Compliance

Every installation includes a Gas Certificate of Compliance under AS/NZS 5601. It is your proof the work is legal, safe and insurable. We email you a copy and keep one on file.

### Leak & Pressure Tested

Every connection is pressure tested and the flame checked before we sign off. You see the result; we do not leave until the line holds pressure and the burners run clean.

### Upfront Fixed Pricing

The price we quote is the price you pay. If a stubborn old fitting or a tight cabinet turns a 1-hour job into a 3-hour job, that is on us, not you.

### Manufacturer Warranty Protected

A cooktop connected by a licensed gas fitter keeps its full manufacturer warranty active. An unlicensed connection voids it; ours protects it, and we register it for you.

### $0 Call-Out Fee

Standard cooktop bookings include a free call-out and on-site gas assessment. Any after-hours surcharge is quoted upfront before dispatch; never a surprise on the invoice.

## Licensed plumber vs. unlicensed worker

Why licensing matters

Plumbing work in NSW must be carried out by a licensed plumber. It is not just a formality, licensing protects your home, your insurance, and your right to recourse if something goes wrong.

Licensed plumber

Unlicensed worker

Most home insurance policies will not pay out for damage caused by unlicensed plumbing work. A burst hot water unit from a non-compliant install can void cover on the entire claim, often tens of thousands of dollars.

## How to get a gas cooktop connected properly (and legally)

Homeowner’s Handbook

A short editorial guide written by our senior gas fitters. No fluff, no brand bias; just the checks an experienced homeowner makes before letting anyone touch a gas line in their kitchen.

The seven checks that matter most

Walk-away signs on a gas cooktop quote

Six questions every homeowner should ask

Verify a gas fitter’s licence yourself

Service NSW lets anyone verify a contractor licence and its gas endorsement in under a minute; and a gas cooktop connection legally requires one. Bookmark the link: it is the single most useful tool a homeowner has.

[Open the Fair Trading check](https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/check-tradesperson-or-contractor-licence)

[Get a transparent gas cooktop quote](https://fixedtoday.com.au/contact-us)

### Confirm the person is a licensed gas fitter

This is the single most important check. Connecting a gas cooktop in NSW is licensed work; a general handyman, a kitchen installer or the appliance delivery driver is not permitted to do it. A plumbing licence alone is not enough either; the licence must carry a gas-fitting endorsement. Ask for the number and verify it before anyone opens a gas line.

Every Fixed Today gas job is carried out by a gas-endorsed fitter under NSW licence 305428C; verifiable on Service NSW in under a minute.

### Match the appliance to your fuel: natural gas or LPG

Natural gas (mains) and LPG (bottled) burn at different pressures and need different injectors. A cooktop set for natural gas but run on LPG (or vice versa) produces lazy yellow flames, soot, and dangerous carbon monoxide. Most cooktops include a conversion jet kit in the box; the fitter must install the right injectors and set the regulator for your fuel.

We confirm your fuel type on-site, fit the correct injectors from the manufacturer’s kit, set the regulator, and check the flame is crisp and blue before we sign off.

### Bayonet or fixed connection; know the difference

A bayonet connection uses a quick-release socket and a flexible hose, so the cooktop can be unplugged for cleaning or service. A fixed (hard) connection is plumbed directly with rigid pipe; common for flush-mount cooktops and commercial jobs. Each has its place, and each has clearance and hose-rating rules under AS/NZS 5601. The right choice depends on your appliance and cabinetry, not on what’s quickest.

We recommend bayonet or fixed based on your appliance, bench layout and how you’ll use the kitchen; and fit an appliance isolation valve either way.

### Check the gas line is sized for the whole load

A cooktop rarely runs alone; add a gas oven, an instant hot water unit or a heater on the same line and an undersized pipe starves every appliance. A competent fitter calculates the total gas load and confirms the supply and consumer piping can deliver it. Tapping the nearest pipe “because it’s close” is how you end up with burners that drop out when the oven fires.

We calculate your total connected gas load and confirm the supply and pipe sizing before we connect; upsizing the run where the numbers require it.

### Insist on a leak and pressure test; and watch it

Every new gas connection must be leak and pressure tested before it is used. This is not a quick sniff or a squirt of soapy water on one joint; it is a proper pressure test of the line, held and read, to prove there is no leak anywhere in the system. If a fitter connects a cooktop and walks away without testing, do not use it.

We pressure test the line to AS/NZS 5601, hold and read it in front of you, and check every joint before the appliance is commissioned.

### Demand a Gas Certificate of Compliance, not a receipt

In NSW, gas fitting work must be certified. The Gas Certificate of Compliance is your legal proof the connection meets AS/NZS 5601; it is what your insurer relies on, what a buyer’s solicitor looks for on resale, and what keeps your appliance warranty valid. A receipt is not a certificate. If the fitter can’t issue one, the work is not compliant.

We issue and email your Gas Certificate of Compliance the same day, and keep a copy on file for insurance and resale.

### Make sure there’s an appliance isolation valve

An appliance isolation valve lets you shut off the gas to the cooktop alone; for cleaning, service, or in an emergency; without turning off the gas to the whole house. Many older or cut-price connections skip it. It is inexpensive, it is safer, and on a proper install it is standard.

Every cooktop we connect gets an accessible appliance isolation valve, so you can safely shut off the cooktop on its own whenever you need to.

No gas-fitting licence number on the quote

“We don’t need to issue a certificate for a cooktop”

No mention of a leak or pressure test

Injectors left on factory settings for the wrong fuel

No appliance isolation valve in the scope

A handyman or the retailer offering to “just connect it”

Are you a licensed gas fitter, and what’s your licence number?

A real answer is a NSW contractor licence number with a gas-fitting endorsement that you can verify on Service NSW. “I’ve done heaps of these” is not a licence. Connecting a gas cooktop without one is illegal in NSW.

Is my cooktop set for natural gas or LPG, and will you convert it?

The fitter should confirm your fuel type, then install the correct injectors from the appliance’s conversion kit and set the regulator. Running a cooktop on the wrong injectors causes sooty flames and carbon monoxide, so this is not optional.

Will you leak and pressure test the connection?

Yes; every new gas connection must be pressure tested to AS/NZS 5601 before use. Ask to see the test held and read. A connection that isn’t tested should never be turned on.

Will I receive a Gas Certificate of Compliance, and when?

Yes, for every gas connection; issued the same day with a copy to you. It is your legal and insurance proof the work is compliant. “We’ll sort it later” usually means it isn’t coming.

Is an appliance isolation valve included?

It should be. An isolation valve lets you shut off gas to the cooktop alone for cleaning, service or emergencies without killing the whole house supply. A quote that omits it is cutting a corner.

Is my gas line big enough for the cooktop plus my other appliances?

A competent fitter calculates the total gas load (cooktop, oven, hot water, heating) and confirms the supply and pipe sizing before connecting. If the line is undersized, appliances starve when they all run at once.

## Gas cooktop questions, answered straight

FAQs

Direct answers to the questions our gas cooktop customers ask most. If yours is not here, give us a call; we’ll tell you straight.

### Can a handyman or the retailer connect my new gas cooktop?

No. In NSW, connecting a gas cooktop is licensed gas-fitting work and can only legally be carried out by a licensed gas fitter holding a gas-fitting endorsement. A handyman, a kitchen installer or the appliance delivery driver is not permitted to do it; and an unlicensed connection voids your insurance and appliance warranty. Every Fixed Today cooktop is connected by a gas-endorsed fitter under NSW licence 305428C.

### How much does it cost to install and connect a gas cooktop?

A straight like-for-like reconnect to an existing bayonet point often starts around $180. A full install with a new gas point run, isolation valve and certification; or an electric-to-gas conversion; typically runs $600 to $1,200+ depending on pipe distance and access. We give you a fixed, itemised price on-site before any work starts, and it includes the leak test and Certificate of Compliance.

### Can you convert my kitchen from electric to gas?

Yes. We assess your gas supply (mains or LPG), run a compliant new gas point and consumer piping to the cooktop location, fit an appliance isolation valve, connect and commission the cooktop, leak and pressure test the line, and issue a Gas Certificate of Compliance. If there’s no gas to the property yet, we’ll talk you through getting a meter connected first.

### What’s the difference between a bayonet and a fixed connection?

A bayonet connection uses a quick-release socket and an approved flexible hose, so the cooktop can be unplugged for cleaning or service. A fixed (hard) connection is plumbed directly with rigid pipe; common for flush-mount and commercial cooktops. Both are compliant when installed to AS/NZS 5601 with the correct clearances; we recommend the right one for your appliance and cabinetry.

### My cooktop came set for natural gas; can it run on LPG?

Most gas cooktops can run on either fuel, but only after the correct injectors are fitted and the regulator is set for your gas type. Cooktops usually ship with a conversion jet kit in the box. Running a cooktop on the wrong injectors causes yellow, sooty flames and dangerous carbon monoxide, so this conversion must be done by a licensed gas fitter; we do it as part of the connection.

### Will I get a Certificate of Compliance?

Yes. Every gas cooktop connection we do closes with a Gas Certificate of Compliance under AS/NZS 5601, emailed to you the same day with a copy kept on file. It is your legal proof the work is safe and compliant; required to keep your home insurance valid and your appliance warranty active, and checked by a buyer’s solicitor on resale.

### I can smell gas near my cooktop; what should I do?

Act first, call second. Do not switch anything on or off, don’t use your phone in the area, and don’t light anything. If a burner is on, only turn it off if you can do so instantly and safely. Open windows and doors, get everyone out, and from a safe location outside call **000** or your gas provider’s emergency line. Once you’re safe, call us on 1800 349 338 and we’ll dispatch a gas fitter to find and repair the leak and re-certify the appliance.

### Do you connect cooktops I’ve bought elsewhere?

Absolutely. Plenty of customers buy the cooktop from a retailer and just need a licensed fitter to connect it. We’ll confirm the model suits your gas supply and bench cut-out, fit the correct injectors, connect via bayonet or fixed connection with an isolation valve, leak test the line, and issue your Certificate of Compliance.

### Do you do commercial and cafe cooktop installs?

Yes. We handle commercial kitchen gas work including multi-burner cooktops and cooktop banks. We calculate the total gas load, size the supply and consumer piping, fit isolation valves, connect and commission each appliance, and provide SWMS, licence and insurance documents plus the Gas Certificate of Compliance for your council and insurer.
