## Summary

Pillar CCTV drain inspection page for Sydney: hero then segment and about snapshot lead into the ETA strip and the location wizard (where we need you), then offers, when-to-book checks, and the live camera-van map. Before/after and the two on-time guarantee blocks build trust, then the honest comparison, how-it-works, and warranty. Licensing comparison precedes the inspection service grid and by-the-numbers. Social proof runs through reviews and payment, then the equipment marquee, the buyer’s handbook, the live job ticker, FAQs, and a lead-capture close. All primary CTAs point to #wizard or contact-us; the ETA strip points to #live-cctv-inspections-map.

## The crew that has surveyed 3,000+ metres of Sydney drainage

Sydney drain camera specialists

Anyone can clear a blockage; the question is what caused it. We run a camera into the line first, so you are paying to fix the actual fault, not to guess at it twice. Every van carries push-rod and crawler cameras plus a sonde locator.

From a recurring kitchen backup in Marrickville to a tree-root-choked sewer in Hunters Hill, our licensed Sydney plumbers survey drains before anyone lifts a shovel. We jet-clean the line, record the run in HD, mark the fault position and depth on the surface, and email you the footage with a plain-English report; so whether you are buying a house, planning relining, or chasing a smell, you have evidence, not opinion.

## Not sure a CCTV survey is worth it? Run these 4 checks

When to book a camera

A camera inspection pays for itself the moment it stops you paying to clear the same drain twice. Work through these; if any sound like your situation, a survey will show you exactly what is going on underground.

If a drain is overflowing near power points or an outdoor board, keep clear of standing water and only isolate power if it is safe to do so; otherwise wait for us to arrive.

### The same drain keeps blocking

If a sink, gully or toilet backs up every few weeks no matter how many times it is plunged or snaked, something structural is causing it; roots at a joint, a partial collapse, a belly holding water, or scale build-up. A camera finds the cause so you fix it once.

### You are buying a home

Building and pest inspections stop at the surface; they never look inside the drains. Older Sydney homes commonly have earthenware sewer lines cracked or invaded by roots. A pre-purchase CCTV inspection reveals repair costs before you sign, not after settlement.

### Roots, smells or damp with no clear source

Persistent sewer odour, patches of unusually green or sunken lawn, gurgling drains, or dampness near a boundary line often mean cracked pipework leaking below ground. A camera and sonde locate the exact break and its depth so digging is targeted.

### Before paving, relining or a reno

About to pave over a yard, extend, or reline a pipe? Survey the drains first. We map line runs, depths and condition so nothing is built over a failing pipe and any relining is scoped to the real length and diameter that needs it.

## What changes when the drain is surveyed before it is dug up?

Before vs After

Excavating on a hunch is how a small pipe repair turns into a torn-up yard and a bill to match. Here is exactly what shifts when a licensed Sydney plumber cameras the line first instead of guessing.

## What happens when you book a CCTV drain inspection in Sydney?

How It Works

Same clear process whether it is a recurring blockage, a pre-purchase check, or a survey before relining. Here is exactly what to expect from the first call to the report landing in your inbox.

Every CCTV drain inspection in Sydney comes with recorded footage you keep and a written condition report; and our lifetime workmanship warranty on any repair we carry out from it.

Tell us the symptom and the drain

Which fixture backs up, how often, any smells or damp patches, and whether it is sewer, stormwater or a single fixture waste. We use this to load the right camera head and locator before we leave the depot.

Access, jet-clean, then camera in

We find the inspection opening or lift a boundary shaft, hydro-jet the line so the pipe walls are actually visible, then feed the camera through while you watch the live monitor with us.

Locate the fault and its depth

When we find roots, a crack, a belly or a collapse, we use the on-camera sonde and a surface locator to mark the exact position and depth; so any repair is targeted, not exploratory.

Footage plus a written report

You get the recorded run and a plain-English condition report emailed the same day, with a fixed-price repair option if anything needs fixing. No obligation to proceed with the repair.

Emergency call; we triage in 60 seconds

Sewage overflowing inside, every drain in the house backing up, or water surcharging from a gully. We identify what is genuinely urgent and dispatch the closest plumber with a camera and jetter on board.

Stop the mess while we’re en route

We talk you through stopping water use in the house, keeping people away from contaminated water, and where to expect the overflow; so damage is contained before we arrive.

Clear it, then camera it on the spot

We jet or machine the blockage to restore flow, then run the camera immediately to show whether roots, a crack or a collapse caused it; because a clear that ignores the cause just books you a repeat.

Flowing again, with proof of cause

Flow restored and re-tested, the cause recorded on footage, and a written report with a repair option if the line needs permanent work. You know why it happened, not just that it stopped.

Site review and access requirements

Strata, retail, hospitality or facilities? We coordinate with building management, after-hours access, and confined-space or traffic-control needs for boundary and main-line shafts ahead of the survey.

Compliance and SWMS

Plumbing licence, $10M public liability, SWMS and JSA documents prepared and supplied before we step on site; no chasing.

Full survey with asset mapping

We camera and locate the drainage network, note pipe material, diameter, grade issues and defects, and mark line runs and depths; useful for maintenance planning, dilapidation records and reline scoping.

Report, footage and scoped options

You receive the recorded runs, a defect-graded condition report, and where needed a scoped repair or relining quote presented against no-dig and excavation options.

## Evidence, not opinion; that is what you’re paying for

Our Guarantee

Every camera inspection ends with recorded footage you keep and a written condition report in plain English. If we carry out a repair from what we find, it is covered by our lifetime workmanship warranty; and re-surveyed on camera so you can see the line is clear.

### Recorded Footage You Keep

You receive the full HD recording of your drain run, not just a glance at our screen. Yours to keep, share with a conveyancer, or hand to another trade for a second opinion.

### Written Condition Report

A plain-English report of what we found; pipe material, defects, root intrusion, cracks or collapses, with locations and depths. Clear enough to make a decision from, detailed enough to scope a repair.

### Located To The Metre

Any fault is pinpointed with a sonde and surface locator and marked on the ground, so a repair is dug or relined exactly where it is needed; no exploratory trenching across your yard.

### Lifetime Workmanship Warranty

If we repair or reline a pipe based on the survey and our workmanship ever fails while you own the property, we come back and fix it at no charge. No time limit, no excess.

### Post-Repair Camera Proof

After any repair we run the camera through again and record it, so you have before-and-after footage proving the line is clear and the fault is gone.

### Upfront Fixed Pricing

The survey price is quoted before the camera goes in, and any repair is quoted from the footage. No open-ended hourly meter, no surprises on the invoice.

## Licensed plumber vs. unlicensed worker

Why licensing matters

Plumbing work in NSW must be carried out by a licensed plumber. It is not just a formality, licensing protects your home, your insurance, and your right to recourse if something goes wrong.

Licensed plumber

Unlicensed worker

Most home insurance policies will not pay out for damage caused by unlicensed plumbing work. A burst hot water unit from a non-compliant install can void cover on the entire claim, often tens of thousands of dollars.

## How to get a drain inspection that’s actually worth paying for

Homeowner’s Handbook

A short editorial guide written by our senior drainage plumbers. No fluff, no upsell; just the checks an experienced homeowner or buyer makes before trusting a camera report.

The six things that separate a real survey from a look-see

Walk-away signs on a drain “camera” job

Six questions to ask before you book a survey

Verify a drainage plumber’s licence yourself

Service NSW lets anyone verify a plumber’s contractor licence in under a minute; and any repair from a survey legally requires one. Bookmark the link: it is the single most useful tool a homeowner or buyer has.

[Open the Fair Trading check](https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/check-tradesperson-or-contractor-licence)

[Get a proper drain survey](https://fixedtoday.com.au/contact-us)

### Clean the line before you film it

A camera pushed through grease, silt or a partial blockage films mud, not pipe. You cannot grade a crack or spot root intrusion behind a wall of sludge. Any survey that skips cleaning to save 20 minutes is filming a guess, and you will likely be told “we couldn’t see much past there”.

We hydro-jet the line first so the pipe walls are clean and visible, then run the camera; you see the actual condition, joint by joint.

### Push-rod vs crawler; use the right camera

A push-rod camera is perfect for house drains and branch lines up to around 150mm. Larger mains and long commercial runs need a self-propelled crawler that can travel further and pan and tilt to inspect joints properly. One camera does not suit every pipe, and the wrong tool leaves lengths unseen.

We carry both push-rod and crawler cameras and pick the right head for your pipe size, length and access; not just whatever is on the reel.

### A fault you can’t locate isn’t much use

Seeing a crack on screen is only half the job; if it cannot be located on the surface, the repair still means guesswork and exploratory digging. A proper survey uses the camera’s built-in sonde and a surface locator to mark the fault’s exact position and depth on the ground.

Every survey includes sonde locating and depth; we paint or peg the fault position on the surface so any dig or reline is targeted to the metre.

### Insist on footage and a written report

“You saw it on my screen” is not evidence. For a pre-purchase decision, an insurance question, or a second opinion, you need the recorded run and a written condition report you can keep and share. A report that never leaves the operator’s phone is worthless the day after.

You get the full recording and a plain-English condition report emailed the same day; yours to keep, forward to a conveyancer, or hand to another trade.

### Camera the drains before you buy

Standard building and pest inspections never enter the drains. In older Sydney suburbs, earthenware sewers cracked or invaded by roots are common and can cost thousands to reline. A pre-purchase CCTV inspection is one of the cheapest ways to avoid inheriting a five-figure repair after settlement.

We run a pre-purchase survey of the sewer and stormwater and give you footage plus a report timed to your cooling-off period, so you can negotiate or walk away informed.

### Match the repair to the footage, not the sales pitch

Not every defect needs the whole line dug up or relined. A single cracked section can often be point-repaired or relined in isolation; a full replacement is sometimes the honest answer, but it should be justified by what the camera actually shows, joint by joint.

We scope any repair straight from your footage and explain no-dig relining against excavation, with the trade-offs and price of each; you decide from evidence.

No jetting or cleaning before the camera goes in

“You saw it on my screen”; no footage handed over

A fault found but no location or depth marked

Operator can’t show a plumbing/drainage licence number

Straight to “dig up the whole line” without the footage

No written report; just a verbal quote at the door

Do you clean or jet the line before filming it?

You want a yes. A camera run through silt, grease or a partial blockage films debris, not the pipe wall, and small cracks or root intrusion get missed. We jet the line first so the survey shows the true condition.

What camera do you use, and does it suit my pipe?

For house drains up to about 150mm a push-rod camera is ideal; for larger mains or long runs a self-propelled crawler with pan-and-tilt is the right tool. Ask which they’ll use and why; “one camera for everything” often means lengths go unseen.

Will you locate the fault and mark its depth?

Yes should be the answer. Seeing a defect is only useful if it can be found again. We use the camera’s sonde and a surface locator to pinpoint position and depth and mark it on the ground, so any repair is targeted rather than exploratory.

Do I get the footage and a written report?

You should keep the full recording plus a written condition report. For pre-purchase, insurance or a second opinion, evidence you own matters. We email both the same day; footage that stays on the operator’s phone is worth nothing to you later.

Are you a licensed plumber, not just a camera operator?

Ask for a NSW contractor licence number covering drainage. If a survey turns into a repair, only a licensed plumber can legally carry it out and issue compliant work; an unlicensed report can also be knocked back by insurers and conveyancers.

If you find a fault, how is the repair scoped?

A good answer scopes the repair from the footage; the exact section, length and method (point repair, relining or excavation), with the trade-offs of each. Be wary of “dig up the whole run” quoted before the camera has even shown the full line.

## CCTV drain inspection questions, answered straight

FAQs

Direct answers to the questions our inspection customers ask most. If yours is not here, give us a call; we’ll tell you straight.

### What exactly is a CCTV drain inspection?

We feed a waterproof camera on a flexible rod (or a self-propelled crawler for larger pipes) into your drain and view the inside on a monitor in real time. It lets us see cracks, root intrusion, blockages, bellies and collapsed or misaligned sections without digging. You get the recorded footage and a written condition report.

### How much does a drain camera inspection cost?

A standard residential CCTV inspection typically runs from $250 to $650 depending on the line length and how easy the access is, and includes sonde locating of any fault. We quote the survey price before the camera goes in, so there are no surprises. If a repair is needed, it’s quoted separately from the footage.

[Get a survey quote](https://fixedtoday.com.au/contact-us)

### Do I get to keep the footage and a report?

Yes. You receive the full recording of your drain run plus a plain-English written condition report, emailed the same day. It’s yours to keep, forward to your conveyancer, or hand to another trade for a second opinion; it doesn’t just stay on our screen.

### Should I get a drain inspection before buying a house?

Strongly recommended, especially for homes built before the 1980s. Building and pest inspections never enter the drains, yet cracked earthenware sewers and root intrusion are common in older Sydney suburbs and can cost thousands to reline. A pre-purchase CCTV inspection reveals the condition before you sign, so you can negotiate or walk away informed.

### Do you clean the drain before running the camera?

Yes; where access allows we hydro-jet the line first so the pipe walls are actually visible. A camera pushed through grease, silt or a partial blockage just films debris, and small cracks or early root intrusion get missed. Cleaning first is the difference between a real survey and a look-see.

[Book a clean + camera](https://fixedtoday.com.au/contact-us)

### Can you tell exactly where the problem is?

Yes. Our cameras carry a built-in sonde transmitter, and we use a surface locator to pinpoint the fault’s exact position and depth, then mark it on the ground. That means any repair or relining is targeted to the metre; no digging up the whole yard to “find it”.

### What kinds of faults can a camera actually find?

Root intrusion at joints, cracked and fractured pipe, collapsed or misaligned sections, bellies (sags that hold water), scale and grease build-up, displaced or offset joints, and illegal or broken connections in stormwater lines. We grade what we find by severity in the report.

### Can a camera survey help plan pipe relining?

Absolutely; it’s essential. Relining is scoped from the camera footage: the true length, diameter, pipe material and the exact defects to be covered. Surveying first stops you over-paying to reline a whole line when a section repair will do, or under-scoping a job that needs more.

### Do you re-camera the drain after a repair?

Yes. After any repair or reline we run the camera through again and record it, giving you before-and-after footage that proves the line is clear and the fault is gone. It’s part of every job we carry out from a survey.
